Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays have proudly represented Major League Baseball in the Tampa Bay region since 1998. The organization and its foundation are committed to building a strong community bond through meaningful interaction and charitable contributions. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig calls the Rays a “model organization,” and the organization is widely recognized as being “best-run, most symbiotic” in baseball. Over the past six years, the Rays have won more games than any other MLB team except the New York Yankees. The team’s streak of six consecutive winning seasons is the longest ever among Tampa Bay’s major sports franchises. ESPN has long recognized the team’s fan-friendly approach and attention to customer service. It ranked the Rays in fan affordability in each of the past seven years among all MLB, NFL, NHL and NBA franchises. Through grants and other contributions, the Rays Baseball Foundation has invested over $3 million in the Tampa Bay region over the past six years.

Melanie Lenz

Melanie Lenz was named senior vice president of strategy and development in December 2014. Lenz joined the Rays in November 2006 and was responsible for managing the design and construction of their spring training facility in Charlotte County. In 2014, Charlotte Sports Park was voted the favorite spring training destination by USA Today readers. Recently at Tropicana Field, Lenz oversaw the creation of the 360-degree pedestrian circulation around the lower seating bowl and a re-imagined batter’s eye gathering point called The Porch, building on the $20+ million the Rays have invested in Tropicana Field since 2006. Additionally, she currently oversees key strategic initiatives including the Rays brand extension within the television market, management of essential business relationships, business analytics activities and long-term facilities planning. Lenz previously worked for New York City Economic Development Corporation, where she directed many real estate transactions within the five boroughs, resulting in over 15 million square feet of new development and several billion dollars in investment.
