August heats up with major Amazon expansion

August 17, 2015

Less than two years after announcing plans to open a one million square-foot fulfillment center and create 1,000 jobs in South Shore Corporate Park in Ruskin, Amazon kicked off this month with news that the company is adding another 1,000+ positions there. The e-commerce giant also plans on adding 1,000 positions at its fulfillment center in Lakeland.

Between the two centers, Amazon currently employs more than 2,000 people, according to an announcement from Governor Rick Scott’s office. The online retailer has been hiring people throughout the year as well.

“Amazon’s rapid growth at its Ruskin distribution center is another indicator of Hillsborough County’s desirability as a business destination for some of the top brands in the world,” said Rick Homans, President and CEO of the Tampa Hillsborough EDC. “The EDC and our partners at Hillsborough County, Hillsborough Community College, and CareerSource Tampa Bay are committed to supporting them as they grow and look forward to their continued expansion in this market.”

For those interested in applying with Amazon, the company will host a job fair on Friday, August 28 at Hillsborough Community College’s South Shore Campus in the new science building from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
