Baker McKenzie Announces Location of its new Center in Downtown Tampa

December 19, 2018

Tampa, Florida, USA, December 19, 2018 — Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie today announced plans to locate its new Tampa Center at SunTrust Financial Centre, a 526,000-square-foot, Class A+ office space in downtown Tampa.

The Firm’s Tampa Center, expected to create 300 high-quality jobs, is scheduled to officially open at its new location in late summer 2019. The Center will occupy a full floor in the SunTrust Centre in a state-of-the-art office offering a mix of alternative work spaces, individual work stations and collaborative work zones.

“We are so pleased to locate our Tampa Center in the heart of downtown, an area that continues to attract exciting projects and developments,” said Jamie Lawless, Executive Director of the Tampa Center. “We expect that many of our Tampa-based employees will take advantage of the opportunity to not only work downtown but also live and play in this thriving area. Being close to the development and action will allow our teams to engage and support the community in a real and meaningful way. We are building a team to provide world-class innovative, creative and efficient business services to our Firm and clients, and SunTrust Financial Centre will enable us to create a world-class office space to match.”

An innovative hub connected with the Firm’s offices globally, Baker McKenzie’s Tampa Center will provide expert support to the Firm and its global clients — for example, in Legal Services, Finance, IT, Knowledge Management, Operations, Business Development, Marketing and Communications, and Talent. The Firm has posted open roles at its new Center here.

“Highwoods is thrilled Baker McKenzie is locating their Tampa Center in SunTrust Financial Centre and becoming a valued customer in our distinctive office tower,” said Dan Woodward, Highwoods Vice President, Tampa. “Since acquiring SunTrust Financial Centre three years ago we’ve added collaborative meeting space, an outdoor terrace, and new fitness and conference centers. These property improvements have been well received by current and future customers, including Baker McKenzie, and have helped drive the property to over 97% leased.

Baker McKenzie will be the largest global law firm to establish operations in Tampa. The project was made possible through strong partnerships between Enterprise Florida, the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

“Baker McKenzie’s selection of the SunTrust Financial Center for the Tampa Center puts them right in the heart of the most exciting transformations happening downtown,” said Craig J. Richard, CEcD, president and CEO of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation. “Their presence will be an outstanding addition to our business community and shared services industry, and we look forward to assisting the Baker McKenzie team as they get settled in their new home.”
