July 11, 2016

TAMPA, Fla. / BeniComp Insurance Company has relocated its headquarters from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Tampa, bringing nine members of its executive team to new offices at 501 E. Kennedy Boulevard. The supplemental group health insurance company hopes to add at least three more full time employees within the next twelve months. BeniComp will maintain its offices in Fort Wayne as well, where the company currently employs 40.

“We are thrilled to call Tampa our home and bring our innovative health and wellness initiatives to the Florida market,” said Doug Short, president and CEO of BeniComp Insurance Company. “This location is perfect for us for several reasons. We have strong partnerships with large Florida-based insurance companies to bring our insurance solutions to employers here and across the country. We are close to the world’s first health and wellness-focused city district and an airport that offers us convenient, direct access to our customers. Tampa offers an unmatched quality of life and access to an excellent talent pool that will propel our future growth.”

BeniComp allows companies to identify, realign, and manage their employee health risk through the supplemental group health insurance product called BeniComp Advantage. This patent-pending product uses outcome-based deductible incentives (OBI) to drive participation and engagement in a comprehensive health and wellness initiative. This type of wellness incentive has proven to be the most effective and affordable way for employers to offer health incentives to their employees. OBIs are monetary rewards tied to passing health risk identifiers such as obesity and nicotine use. Executed well, OBIs result in over 95% participation and decreased health claims.

Florida is home to more than 129,000 financial and professional services firms and their nearly 900,000 employees. Nearly one in four business and information services companies located in Florida have a presence in Tampa Bay, including some of the nation’s leading corporations in banking, finance, and insurance.

The Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation (EDC) assisted BeniComp with connections to CareerSource Tampa Bay for its future hiring and training requirements.

“BeniComp’s relocation of its headquarters to Tampa strengthens Hillsborough County’s position as the preferred location for financial and professional services firms,” said Colleen Chappell, chair of the Tampa Hillsborough EDC and CEO of ChappellRoberts. “Our community’s growing reputation as a hotspot for Millennial talent – one that offers the career opportunities, lifestyle and affordability they want most in a city – is attracting diverse companies large and small to invest in our market. We thank BeniComp for choosing Tampa as its new home and look forward to supporting their growth and success.”
