EDC “Hunger Heroes” give back with Feeding Tampa Bay

March 14, 2016

Last month, the EDC staff took an afternoon away from the office to give back to our community. For a few hours, we spent time as “Hunger Heroes,” sorting donated food and preparing boxes at Feeding Tampa Bay. The organization collects and distributes food, toiletries, and other supplies to over 700,000 hungry people in our region.

During Team EDC’s three-hour shift and with some money donated by our group, we helped provide more than 7,000 meals to local people in need.

With every dollar donated, Feeding Tampa Bay can supply 10 meals to those who are hungry. Feeding Tampa Bay is also one of the top food pantries in the Feeding America network, servicing 10 counties in West Central Florida.

“For us, making Tampa and Hillsborough County a better place to live, work, and play means going beyond our roles in economic development,” says J.P. DuBuque, interim president and CEO for the EDC. “Our team has much to be grateful for, and we’ve challenged ourselves to think about other ways that we can make a difference in the community. We truly enjoyed working with Feeding Tampa Bay and helping those in need.”
