Greenway Health CEO Scott ZimmermanTAMPA — Greenway Health will add 104 new employees and invest $1.8 million expanding its West Shore headquarters, officials announced Tuesday.

The positions are expected to be added by December in the company’s software development and training, legal, cyber securityand marketing departments.

Those jobs will pay an average of $57,163 — or 115 percent of Hillsborough County’s average private sector annual wage — and the company is in line to receive $520,000 in tax refunds from the state of Florida, Hillsborough County and city of Tampa once it creates those new jobs at those salaries.

“We competed hard against Georgia to win this expansion for our community and are excited to assist Greenway Health as they build an even greater future for their company here,” Moffitt Cancer Center CEO Dr. Alan F. List said in an announcement of the expansion released by the nonprofit Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp., which he chairs.

Last November, the Hillsborough County Commission and Tampa City Council each approved offering incentives of $52,000 spread out over four years. The company had alternative sites available in other states, according to a memo to the County Commission, and made receiving the incentives a condition of expanding its headquarters here.

“We’re becoming a really good health care hub,” County Commission chairwoman Sandy Murman said Tuesday. “If you just look at our educational institutions they all have expanded their health care education programs. I think we’ve got the available work force. I think that’s why you’re seeing (this kind of) expansion.”

With a history going back to 1978, Greenway Health provides health information technology focused on electronic health records and management tools to help improve doctors’ offices improve coordination of care, profitability and efficiency. The company says its works with 75,000 health care providers across more than 40 specialties and estimates that its services touch the lives of more than 100 million patients.

“By providing physicians and their staffs with technology that more effectively operates as an extension of their work and amplifies intelligence at the point of care, we can support them for greater patient impact and also bring more joy back into their work,” Greenway Health CEO Scott Zimmerman said in a statement released through the EDC.

Gov. Rick Scott and Florida Department of Economic Opportunity executive director Cissy Proctor said the expansion, which is eligible for the tax refunds through the state’s Qualified Target Industry incentives program, is a result of policies that have created nearly 1.5 million jobs over the past seven years.
“More and more companies are choosing to grow in Florida,” Scott said.
