Since its launch in 2012, the Tampa Hillsborough EDC’s International Business Development program has set the standard for excellence in helping local companies EAwards_Resizedexport successfully. The program, created by Lorrie Belovich, a global trade veteran and the EDC’s Director of International Business Development, has received national acclaim. Earlier this week, Lorrie and J.P. DuBuque, our Interim President and CEO, flew to Washington to collect the President’s “E” Award for Export Service from Secretary Penny Pritzker at a ceremony held at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The President’s “E” Award for Export Service is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making significant contributions to the expansion of U.S. exports. The EDC’s International Business Development team provides export services for local businesses, including export counseling, strategic planning, trade missions, and more.

“Export activity is an important contributor to the long-term economic prosperity of our region,” said DuBuque. “Local companies that export help to raise Tampa and Hillsborough County’s profile as a center for global commerce and enhance our competitiveness.”

A powerful resource for businesses looking to increase their international presence, the EDC offers a variety of resources and events to those interested in taking their business internationally. Our International Business Development team has hosted trade missions to Panama and Brazil, as well as Chile, Canada, and Costa Rica as part of the Tampa Bay Export Alliance, a cooperative regional effort with Pinellas County Economic Development.
