An information technology and data risk consulting firm is expanding its workforce in downtown Tampa by 40 jobs over the next three years.

Sunera LLC, a subsidiary of Cyber Risk Management, is adding the jobs and will invest $185,000 in the expansion, Gov. Rick Scott announced Friday.

The new positions will be in Sunera’s cybersecurity practice and expand its IT audit, information security and data privacy functions.

Sunera is a tenant in the Fifth Third Center. The office market is an anchor of downtown Tampa, and more office tenants — especially those in a high-paying, specialized field — means more potential customers for retailers and restaurants as well as potential demand for more residential units in the urban core.

“These 40 new high-skill, high-wage jobs over the next three years in STEM [science, technology, engineering and math] fields mean that more Floridians will have the opportunity to use their education in the workplace while bolstering Florida’s high-tech reputation,” Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Executive Director Jesse Panuccio said in a written statement.
