Johnson & Johnson chooses Tampa for North American shared services HQ

September 18, 2015

In August, the Tampa Hillsborough EDC celebrated another huge economic development win for our region with the announcement of Johnson & Johnson’s selection of Hillsborough County for its North American shared services headquarters. Over the next three years, the world’s largest healthcare company will create 500 jobs and invest $23.5 million in our community. The jobs will pay an average annual wage of $75,000.

The shared services headquarters, which will occupy more than 110,000 square feet of space on five floors in Hidden River Corporate Center, will be designed to handle work for Johnson & Johnson’s operating companies in the areas of finance, human resources, information technology and procurement.

The Tampa Hillsborough EDC worked closely with Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa, Enterprise Florida, and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity to bring the life sciences leader to Hillsborough County.

“Hillsborough County’s high concentration of exceptionally skilled life sciences, information technology, and finance professionals provides an ideal workforce mix for Johnson & Johnson’s North American shared services headquarters,” said the Hon. Sandy Murman, Chair of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners. “We are excited to welcome Johnson & Johnson, and thank them for bringing excellent jobs and investing in our community.”

The Johnson & Johnson announcement came on the heels of numerous expansion and relocation announcements in the past year, as the EDC continues to push forward in recruiting a corporate headquarters to Tampa and Hillsborough County.

“I will tell you one of the lessons from this,” said Rick Homans in an interview, “is how powerful one success can be. I know that when Bristol-Myers Squibb put their North American Capability Center here it made a big impression on Johnson & Johnson.”

And the EDC knows one thing for sure: we’re not stopping anytime soon.
