Medical equipment and pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson will open a new 111,000 square-foot facility in Tampa that will create 500 new jobs over the next three years.

The new facility will be operational by mid-2016, according to a press release from the governor’s office. It will handle areas of finance, human resources, information technology and procurement for the company. The jobs will pay an average wage of $75,000.

“We currently have a strong presence in Florida, and this new site will continue to build on the successes that our businesses have already achieved across the state,” said Erin Champlin, vice president of Johnson & Johnson Global Services. “We look forward to increasing our presence in the state and within the Tampa community.”

The new office will be located in the Hidden River Corporate Park in New Tampa.

In March, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, the Tampa City Council and the State of Florida approved a total incentive package of $6.4 million for the company.

The health care company had been eyeing Tampa for its new facility since February, when the company planned to invest nearly $23.5 million to create a “shared services headquarters operation” in Hillsborough County, the Times previously reported.

The success of the deal depended on the size of the incentive package provided by local and state economic development organizations.
