November 20, 2017

Early this month, financial services giant MetLife announced the expansion of its Tampa operations. The company will add 430 new jobs paying an average wage of nearly $75,000 by 2019, and invest another $25 million in their local facilities.

MetLife has been operating in Tampa for more than four decades and currently employs more than 1,500 at its three campuses in Hillsborough County. Providing insurance, annuities, employee benefits and asset managements to individuals and institutional customers, MetLife holds leading market positions in the United States, Japan, Latin America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

MetLife joins a growing roster of multinational companies that have expanded or recently established major operations here, including Amgen, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson, Ashley Furniture Industries, TransferWise and Willis Towers Watson.

“We would like to thank Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, Enterprise Florida, Inc., the city of Tampa and Hillsborough County for their ongoing partnership,” said Timothy O’Brien, MetLife senior vice president of Global Corporate Services. “MetLife is pleased to be deepening its relationship in the city of Tampa, and we are confident that the wide array of resources and talent that the state of Florida affords will contribute significantly to our ongoing success.”

The project was made possible through strong partnerships between Enterprise Florida, the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.
