Tampa Bay Economic Development Council welcomes new Senior Vice President of Economic Development

Tampa, Fla. (May 8, 2023) – The Tampa Bay Economic Development Council, the lead designated economic development agency for Hillsborough County and the cities of Tampa, Temple Terrace and Plant City, has announced that Mitchel Allen has joined the team as Senior Vice President of Economic Development.

“Mitch brings excellent economic development experience from other growing metropolitan areas of the country to this role,” said Craig J. Richard, president and CEO of the Tampa Bay EDC. “He also has a strong track record of closing significant projects and meeting business development goals. We’re excited for him to hit the ground running.”

Most recently, Allen was the Executive Vice President of Business Development at the Greater Richmond Partnership in Virginia, where he and his team produced one of the organization’s best years ever by locating 13 new businesses, which brought in $1.5 billion in capital investment, 4.6 million square feet of commercial real estate, and 4,800 net new jobs to the Greater Richmond area.

Prior to that, Allen served as the Senior Vice President of Business Development at the Greater Phoenix Economic Council where he led the recruitment of several major projects including Nike’s $180 million facility. He started his economic development career in Arizona and held positions of increasing responsibility in business recruitment and expansion with the City of Chandler.

Allen has received several industry accolades over the years, including being named one of North America’s Top 50 Economic Developers by Consultant Connect in 2017 and 2020; 40 Under 40 by Development Counsellors International in 2019; and Economic Developer of the Year by the Arizona Association for Economic Development in 2017.

Allen is a graduate of Arizona State University and holds a BA in Communications. He is also currently working on his MBA in Finance from the University of Denver.
