Tampa Bay employment gains

December 7, 2020

Since April, when we saw the biggest drop in employment, Hillsborough County has added more than 59,700 jobs, putting the county’s employment closer to pre-pandemic levels. We are not out of the woods yet, but this is a sign that Hillsborough County is on the right track to recovery.

One industry sector seeing an uptick is IT with demand for software developers and engineers on the rise. Between August 1, 2020 – November 9, 2020, nearly 750 Tampa Bay employers posted more than 2,300 job postings for such roles as software developers, senior software engineers, programmers, data engineers, business system analysts and scrum masters.

About 80% of the job postings came from companies in Hillsborough County such as JP Morgan Chase, Citi, Centene, DTCC, Moffitt Cancer Center and Verizon. An estimated 63% of these high-tech occupations were either filled or removed (ad taken off the site).
