Tampa Hillsborough Film and Digital Media Commission Launches a National Search for New Executive Director

May 6, 2013

The newly formed Tampa Hillsborough Film and Digital Media Commission announced today the nationwide search for an experienced industry professional to run the reorganized commission. The Commission plans to have the new leader in place by July 1.

“Hiring the right person for this role is just the beginning,” said Rick Homans, Chairman of the Commission, and President and CEO of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation. “Once hired, the Executive Director will work with our local production community to raise the awareness of Tampa and Hillsborough County as a destination for film and digital media productions.”

The posting of the job opening is the latest in a series of actions spanning 14 months, driven by Commissioner Ken Hagan, Chairman of the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners, to increase film and digital media business locally.

In 2012, Tampa Bay & Company outlined new goals for the Tampa Bay Film Commission and embarked on a mission to study the industry and determine how best to serve the needs of the Tampa production community. The results suggested a transition of the former film commission, governed only by Tampa Bay & Co., to a public/private partnership shared by the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa.

Homans, who came to Tampa from New Mexico, was actively involved in the state’s film market and incentive packages, attracting significant business for the state’s entertainment industry.

The intended start date for the new Executive Director is slated for July 1. Once in place, a formal advisory board will be established, made up of professionals in the community who can actively help grow the digital entertainment industry in Tampa and Hillsborough County.

The Commission is seeking candidates with a minimum of six years with an existing film commission. Other skill sets include: business management, economic development, industry-based alliances and partnerships, senior leadership, operational knowledge, entertainment, film/video production, marketing, and communications experience.

Qualified candidates can find more information at www.thfdmc.com.
