Tampa International Airport’s expansion readies for second phase, including 17-acre commercial area

July 12, 2017

With the $971 million initial phase of Tampa International Airport (TIA)’s master plan on track for completion next year, the airport is gearing up for Phase 2. In May, TIA shared details for the next phase, which includes the construction of the 17-acre Gateway Development Area and the demolition of the red parking garage and Airside D guideway. The Gateway area, which TIA CEO Joe Lopano envisions will bring more revenues and opportunities for the airport, will feature up to two hotels, a 240,000-square-foot office building, a convenience store/gas station, and a 20,000-square-foot retail strip.

The airport, which consistently ranks as one of the best in North America, will continue to upgrade the customer experience with the addition of new express pick up lanes for passengers without checked baggage as part of the Phase 2 renovations.
