August 8, 2019

A new report by Chicago-based Cushman & Wakefield lists Tampa among the best places to invest in opportunity zones, a program that aims to direct private economic investment into historically disadvantaged areas by offering capital gains tax deferral benefits to investors.

The firm analyzed more than 45 markets that contain 31 percent of the nation’s opportunity zones. Several Florida metros ranked in the top 10, with Tampa coming in at #4. Overall Sunbelt markets lead the group, as growing populations and tax regulatory environments are favorable for development.

There are 101 opportunity zones in the Tampa Bay area, including 32 in Hillsborough County.
