The University of South Florida moved up two spots in a national ranking of public research universities for research funding.

The National Science Foundation ranked USF No. 25 among public universities, up from No. 27 in 2014, and ranked it No. 41 among private and public universities in the United States, up from No. 43 in 2014. Among Florida schools, USF is No. 2, according to a statement.

NSF compiled the ranking by surveying 895 research universities in the U.S. See the full ranking.

USF increased its total research expenditures from $459.4 million in fiscal year 2013 to $488.6 million in 2014. Privately-funded and corporate-funded research grants and contracts make up about 42 percent of the school’s research funding, the statement said.
