Over the past two years, the Tampa Bay EDC and our partners have been courting life sciences companies and talent at an accelerated pace. We believe that Hillsborough County, and the burgeoning Tampa Medical & Research District in particular, is destined to become one of the most sought-after locations for life sciences companies in the decades ahead. Next month, we’ll have another excellent chance to showcase the talent, business opportunities, and collaborative potential of our healthcare, tech and life sciences ecosystem when a delegation of life sciences firms from the United Kingdom arrives here for two days of whirlwind meetings and presentations.
Tampa is an ideal location for European companies that want to establish their first US operations or open an office on the East Coast. This delegation, organized by the Tampa Bay EDC in partnership with United Kingdom’s Department of Business and Trade and the British Consulate-General in Miami, will meet with and hear presentations from everyone from state and local elected officials to representatives from the US Commercial Service, our institutes of higher education, major health systems, incubators and business accelerators, industry associations, and elite scientific institutions. The cohort of 30 companies will participate in a pitch event at the University of Tampa to showcase what they do and the assistance they are seeking, and then hear pitches from UT student enterprises.
That same week, a delegation of EDC Investors and local businesses exploring expansion opportunities in Canada will be heading to Vancouver with our partners in Global Tampa Bay. Our team is eager to open doors for these future exporters and meet with Canadian companies that are eyeing this region for their next US location.
I’m excited about the bright global spotlight that Tampa is basking in these days…but we’re just getting started. I hope you’re planning to join us at our Annual Meeting on October 23rd at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, where you will hear more about the outcomes of events like these and their impact on our region’s economic growth.
Wishing you and your families a Happy Labor Day weekend,
Craig
