What is the number one thing that you believe will impact Tampa Bay’s competitiveness in the coming decade?

Tampa Bay’s ability to recruit and maintain a highly skilled workforce will impact its competitiveness more than any other factor. I talk with business owners every day, from manufacturers, distributors, and contractors, to service professionals, restaurant operators, and recruiters, and the one common theme is their ongoing need to find good talent.

As a growing market, Tampa Bay has more job postings than available workers which helps draw talent.

Additionally, the Tampa Bay EDC, the city and employers are all focused on making sure that the city is desirable for attracting and retaining our current and future workforce. This includes growing partnerships between local colleges and universities with regional employers to keep a pipeline of graduates in Tampa Bay long-term, as well as programs for military veterans to use their skills in civilian careers.

Financial services is one of our fastest-growing and strongest industries in the Tampa Bay area. What makes this market so attractive to financial professionals and financial institutions?

Tampa Bay is one of the hottest markets in the country. Between our welcoming business community, relatively low cost of living, skilled workforce, natural beauty, and great weather, it’s an ideal market to start and grow a business. Tampa Bay has also become a destination for high-net-worth individuals. The influx of growing banking needs from new and existing businesses, as well as private wealth advisory, has driven the rise of the financial services industry in Tampa Bay.

What community issues are you most looking forward to the EDC tackling over the next couple of years?

As Tampa Bay continues to grow, infrastructure is the most critical challenge facing our community and a key to our continued prosperity. It’s imperative that we create smart solutions that meet Tampa Bay’s population growth and improve the connectivity throughout our region. I look forward to working with partners across the region, including the EDC, to find solutions.

On a personal level, what’s your favorite place in Tampa or your favorite thing to do here?

I love spending the afternoon on an e-boat, followed by strolling along the Riverwalk, and finishing the day off by watching the sunset over a meal at Armature Works.
