August 12, 2020

Tampa continues to gain national recognition for its tech community and tech talent. The latest comes from commercial real estate and investment firm CBRE, which recently released its annual Tech Talent Analyzer. The report breaks down a metros area’s “tech talent score” by the amount of tech-focused jobs in the overall job market, total amount of tech-centered degrees, millennial growth in the market, and estimated one-year costs for tech firms.

Out of 384 metro markets measured, the Tampa metro area ranked among the top 10 percent. Tampa did especially well with millennial growth, ranking eighth in the nation among “large tech talent markets.”

Tampa has steadily been improving the amount of tech-centered degrees held by graduates. Over the last five years, local graduates earning tech degrees grew by an impressive 56%. Finally, Tampa’s percentage of tech-centered jobs – 3.9of the overall job market – matches that of other major metro areas like New York City, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

Cybersecurity is a field fueling Tampa Bay’s tech talent. It’s one of the fastest growing industries, and over the next five years, cybersecurity job growth is projected to increase by more than 8.5% in Tampa, outpacing the national average of 6.8%.
