Chairman’s Corner, Tapping into Tampa’s Singular Talent Asset: USSOCOM

Recently a panel of retired and transitioning officers from US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) representing the Special Operations Forces Transition Assistance Resource (STAR) program shared insights into a valuable talent resource for Hillsborough County businesses with the EDC’s board of directors.
STAR helps members of the US Special Operations community prepare for transition to their Tampa-based civilian leadership careers by expanding their networks and understanding of career opportunities available in Tampa area, and providing mentors to assist them through the transition process.
After the meeting there was universal enthusiasm among board members for our organization to be involved in supporting the STAR program.
Hillsborough County businesses are lucky to have access to an incredible pool of highly skilled veterans coming from MacDill AFB, as well as the leadership talent from the Special Operations community. Workforce is a critical component for the success of all local businesses, and STAR represents a valuable group of senior and mid-level leaders available for Tampa employers.
Tampa Hillsborough EDC Investors can take advantage of and support STAR by providing job-shadowing, career opportunities, and other corporate resources for transitioning members of the Special Operations community.

STAR Operator Profile: Dan Hodne
Dan Hodne transitioned from a 25+ year career as an Army Special Forces Officer, finishing as Chief of Plans at US Special Operations Command, to Senior Planning Consultant at Moffitt Cancer Center. His expertise in leading positive and lasting change, building high-performing teams, and planning and critical creative thinking support his key role in Moffitt’s Corporate Planning Department.
Dan credits the STAR program for providing him a unique ability to build a network outside of the military community, and cultivate relationships with successful business professionals, through which he learned of the opportunity at Moffitt Cancer Center.
