Health insurance firm BeniComp relocates headquarters from Fort Wayne to Tampa

BeniComp Insurance Co., a supplemental group health insurance company, has relocated its headquarters from Fort Wayne, Ind., to downtown Tampa.
Initially, nine members of the firm’s executive team will move to the new headquarters at 501 E Kennedy Blvd. The company plans to add at least three more full-time employees over the next year.
BeniComp will also maintain its Fort Wayne offices, where it currently employs 40.
“This location is perfect for us for several reasons,” Doug Short, president and CEO of BeniComp, said in a statement Monday. “We have strong partnerships with large Florida-based insurance companies to bring our insurance solutions to employers here and across the country. We are close to the world’s first health and wellness-focused city district and an airport that offers us convenient, direct access to our customers. Tampa offers an unmatched quality of life and access to an excellent talent pool that will propel our future growth.”
BeniComp markets a supplemental group health insurance product called BeniComp Advantage. The product uses a comprehensive health and wellness incentive to help drive participation, with monetary rewards, the company said.
The Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation (EDC) helped BeniComp with connections to CareerSource Tampa Bay for future hiring and training.
Colleen Chappell, chairwoman of the Tampa Hillsborough EDC and CEO of marketing firm ChappellRoberts, said the relocation strengthens the county’s position as a draw for financial and professional services firms.
Nearly one in four business and information services companies in Florida have a presence in Tampa Bay, including some of the nation’s leading corporations in banking, finance and insurance.
“Our community’s growing reputation as a hot spot for millennial talent — one that offers the career opportunities, lifestyle and affordability they want most in a city — is attracting diverse companies large and small to invest in our market,” Chappell said.
