WellCare Wins State Award for Job Creation

Florida Gov. Rick Scott presented the Governor’s Top Job Producer Award for Florida-headquartered companies to WellCare Health Plans Inc.
 
WellCare (NYSE: WCG), a managed care company headquartered in Tampa, has increased its workforce 12 percent year-to-date and now has more than 4,400 employees, a statement from the company said.
 
WellCare’s local employment was up 10 percent from Jan. 1 through mid-November, as reported earlier by the Tampa Bay Business Journal. The company has a local payroll of about $181.6 million, with 2,530 employees in Tampa.
 
The Governor’s Top Job Producer Awards recognize outstanding contributions toward improving and diversifying Florida’s economy. They also recognize distinctive community investment efforts, with a focus on industries targeting economic development and high-wage job growth, the statement said.
