BluePearl Veterinary Partners is expanding its headquarters in Tampa.

BluePearl, which owns and operates a chain of veterinary clinics throughout the U.S., plans to spend $1 million building a new 4,800 square foot building at its site at 3000 Busch Lake Blvd.

The expansion is expected to double BluePearl’s Tampa workforce. There are 50 employees at the headquarters location, and the expansion could create up to 50 new jobs within three years.

“Tampa has always been our home, and we are happy to be creating new jobs and opportunities with our support services team as we continue opening veterinary hospitals across the United States,” CEO Darryl Shaw said in a written statement.

The Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. announced the expansion Wednesday. There are no public incentives for the expansion, though Hillsborough County will provided an expedited permitting process, the EDC said.

Shaw and his brother, veterinarian Neil Shaw, founded BluePearl in Tampa in 1996. The company has more than 1,800 employees at 40 other veterinary hospitals in 14 states.
