Much to be thankful for as Tampa Bay’s job demand continues to grow

I hope everyone had much to celebrate as you gathered with friends and family at Thanksgiving. At the Tampa Bay EDC, we’re deeply grateful for the support and leadership of our Investors, partners, and team as we work together to propel our economy forward.

FloridaCommerce reported that the Tampa MSA gained the second highest number of private sector jobs among all metros in the state year-over-year in October. But Tampa Bay is number one in the state for the growth of healthcare and education jobs, with an increase of 22,400 new roles created here since October 2022. Our labor force grew by 67,557, a 4% increase over the year. Our market continues to attract the jobs and talent we need to help achieve our vision of greater economic prosperity for all.

The Tampa Bay EDC is devoting considerable resources and effort to helping locally underserved districts such as East Tampa to attract new investment, spur business growth and generate awareness among residents about good paying career opportunities that don’t require four year college degrees. Our CertUp Tampa campaign supported the promotion of TECO and HCC’s new Lineworker program, a four month certificate course that helps prepare individuals for entry level roles with great benefits and opportunities for advancement.

As you reflect back on 2023 and set your goals for the year ahead, I would encourage you to think about ways that you can pay forward some of the good fortune you’ve had. Whether that’s mentoring a young student or colleague, offering connections and support to someone struggling to find a new role, volunteering at organizations like Feeding Tampa Bay or Metropolitan Ministries, or donating to your favorite local charity, big differences can be made with small gestures.
